Foreign direct investment (FDI) in Vietnam is is booming. FDI has exceeded $14 billion USD in 2013. Vietnam has two western-modeled stock markets, one in Hanoi and the other in Ho Chi Minh City. Vietnam’s major export markets are the EU (1), US (2), the ASEAN countries (3), Japan (4) and China (5).

Vietnamese government has strong support to IT industry. The government has developed a legal system favorable for foreign investment and business activities in Vietnam, especially in the ICT industry. Vietnam’s legal system has been improved to meet WTO commitments.

Intel invested 1B USD chip plant; Samsung invested 2.2B USD with the aim to manufacture all smart phones and tablets in Vietnam. In 2013, nearly 50% of Samsung smartphones were made in Vietnam. Nokia and LG are also investing. Nokia's first factory aims to produce  45 million handsets per quarter.
